FREEPORT

Travel Companions: Rachel and a large group of colleagues, including Dan Meier, my principal.

The IB Americas Conference was in the Bahamas this year, so who needs a better reason to mix vacation with work?  Rachel and I had five wonderful days at the Grand Lucayan Resort, and I missed the most sessions ever!

My gorgeous daughter enjoying the sun, pool, and ocean!

Any time to enjoy the company of my daughter, and to do it in such a magnificent setting, is a totally different type of travel, but one that rejuvenates and brings strengthens bonds.

WEST VIRGINIA

FALLING WATERS

AUGUST

I took a Globus trip to Scandanavia; it was a "quick" visit to each city, not very different than my Eastern United States and Canada Grand Vacation, but it was a wonderful glimpse into the major cities of Scandinavia and I met some people with whom I still communicate on Facebook, and even in person just this past month (August 2013).

DENMARK

    COPENHAGEN

I got to Copenhagen a little early, so I had a chance to walk around before meeting the group.  On our city tour we visited The Little Mermaid, and we all had the same reaction: she was much smaller than we thought!

NORWAY

    OSLO

This photo is from one of our excursions; our bus driver toasted us with a local liquor before we made our way to the restaurant for a typical Norwegian meal.  Most of the other guests on the tour were nice; I am still Facebook friends with two of the women, and, in fact, just got together with Sharon Lochan and her mom, Pat, last month when they were visiting Washington, D.C.

SWEDEN

    STOCKHOLM

Here I am in Oslo at Stadshuset, the City Hall. We also visited the National Palace and the Parliament on our city tour.

    SILJA LINE

That night we took an overnight ferry from Oslo to Turku and then on to St. Petersburg.  This was my single room on board!

RUSSIA

    ST. PETERSBURG

This is the Jewish Synagogue of St. Petersburg.  It was magnificent inside and out; we had a talk with a local congregant.

We took a boat ride down the Neva River with all the vodka we could drink!  These are a wonderful bunch of women!  I wish I could remember all of their names!  That is Sharon in front with her mom to her right.  In the back are Carol, Valarie and her daughter Kim, and our tour director, Colleen.

FINLAND

    HELSINKI

Our hotel in Helsinki was across the street of a synagogue with a Kosher Deli right next door!  Helsinki was not one of my favorite cities, but I enjoyed the open market and the intriguing Lutheran Cathedral.  That night I ate reindeer for the first time.  It was quite gamy!  We flew back home from Helsinki

Here is our group!
