After being chosen as the IB coordinators, Wendy Vu and I went for IB training in Salt Lake City. Neither of us was thrilled with the location, but we made the best of it for the four days.Travel companion: Wendy Vu

Randi Adleberg and I attended training at the United World College in Montezuma, New Mexico, and took the opportunity to see some sites as well. I think this was my second visit to the United World College.Travel companion: Randi Adleberg

Rachel had a summer internship in China, and things went south from the start. After a few weeks of working with David Schmidt's son, Eric, on a fund-raising project for a bicycle trip, she finally was able to teach English for a couple of weeks before that program also ended early! David and I joined Rachel and his daughter, Leslie, for 2 weeks in China.Travel Companions: Rachel Bousel, David Schmidt, Leslie Schmidt, and Eric Schmidt

POCONOSOCTOBER
I had applied for a summer program with the Fulbright Memorial Fellowship, but since I was considered an "administrator" I was only eligible for the program in the fall. I was lucky that my principal, Dan Meier, allowed me to go. We were in Japan for three weeks: the first week was an introduction to the country in Tokyo. The following week we were divided into groups of 20 and sent to different smaller cities and towns; I was with the Matto group. We would later learn that Matto would be no more, being made a part of Kanazawa. Finally, we returned to Tokyo to share what we learned about the educational system in Japan.Travel Companions: Bonnie Tso, Midoro Shiraki (team leader), Anne O'Malley, Oscar Newman, Susanne Hebner, Lorraine Anderson, Marolyn Smith, Meryl Weber, Adrienne Perkins, Laura Aesoph, Jen Arberg, Amanda Hughes, Matt Wells, Susan Newman, Karen Allen, Lynn Mintz, Christy Elsea, Amy K.
