Spring

This is my first student tour to Europe as a chaperone!  (I was only 23 at the time!)  The first picture is from our first attempt to reach London on Air India! This truly was an "If This is Belgium, It Must Be Tuesday" tour!

Lik every succeeding student tour, it was full of challenges. The first occured about halfway across the Atlantic Ocean when the Air India plane lost one of its engines, and we headed back to New York because "they have better emergency equipment" there. After a frightening landing on a tarmac filled with fire engines and ambulances, we spent the night in the TWA terminal before flying out again the following morrning. That is me sleeping in the terminal!

GREAT BRITAIN

     LONDON
     OXFORD
     HAMPTON COURT

That is Prince Charles front left and Princess Anne shaking the hand of the Archbishop of Canterbury!  The picture is grainy because it is greatly enlarged; they kept us at a distance.  But the day was the christening of Peter Phillips, son of Princess Anne and Timothy Laurence.  I think that is Prince Philip in front and the Queen in plaid!  When we got back to the hotel, no one could believe our luck!

     STRATFORD-ON-AVON

I can actually remember sitting on this bench in Shakespeare's home to pose for the photo; I would sit on it again several times throughout the years!

FRANCE

    PARIS

Our stop in Paris included a visit to Notre Dame, St. Chapelle, Montmarte (above), and a boat trip down the Seine River.

SWITZERLAND

     LUCERNE

My sister gave me this photograph of the train up Mt. Pilatus.  I don't remember much except that when we reached the top of Mt. Pilatus in April there was snow!  Renee said she was petrified going up the mountain, but I just remember the fear on the plane!

GERMANY

    MUNICH
    COLOGNE
    HEIDELBERG

Our tour of Germany included a boat trip down the Rhone River, lunch at the Marienplatz (above), a visit to the Cologne Cathedral, and exploring the streets of Heidelberg!

AUSTRIA

     INNSBRUCK

I still have some of our tour itinerary:  "Before leaving the sidewalk to get a closer view of the column, glance back down the street toward the Golden Roof, and look up at the mountains of the Nordkette (Northern Range) in the distance.  The view of the street, with its little red streetcars and done-capped facades, combined with the snow-covered masses of rock beyond, is perhaps the most-photographed sight in this part of Austria."

BELGIUM

    BRUSSELS

The Manneken Pis -- All of us enjoyed our visit to "Little Man Pee" a famous Brussels landmark.

LIECHTENSTEIN

    VADUZ

None of us seem to have a photo of Liechtenstein, but this one shows just how much fun we had on this world-wind tour!
