1968

Summer

From what dad remembers and what pictures and notes by my mom suggest, we took a road trip as a family this summer, driving up to Canada with a visit to Montreal and Quebec, and either on the way north or on the way back we we stopped in Monroe, New York to visit Catskill Game Farm Park.  My only true memory of this trip was the Biodome from the Montreal Expo 1967.  Our trip was just the following summer, but although the Expo was over, I remember being fascinated by the Biosphere.

Canada

     QUEBEC

This is now a very familiar site to me since it is on my Eastern United States and Canada tour! However, we did not stay in the Chateau Frontenac!  Coincidentally, I think we stayed in St. Foy, the same location of our hotel on the tour.  Most of our photos were probably slides!

     MONTREAL

This is mom and dad at Expo 67!  In fact, I think I took this picture!  That is the monorail in the back; there was a lot more of the Expo the year after than there is today.  Today 4 pavilions still stand including what was then the United States Pavilion and today is the Montreal Biosphere.  Today Ile-Saint-Helene and the island formed to create Expo 67, Ile-Notre-Dame, form Parc Jean-Drapeau.  It is the site of the famous La Ronde, the largest amusement park in Quebec.

   NIAGARA FALLS

I remember going Behind the Falls as well as on the Maid of the Mist!  I'll have to find some photos!

      MONROE (Smith's Clove)

My mom's notes say that our trip included a stop in Smith's Clove at the site of the Old Museum Village which opened in 1950 and is still operating today!  The following photo is not from my family albums but from vintage photos on the website.

      CATSKILL

The Catskill Game which opened in 1933 closed its gates in 2006.
